We are calling it: Culburra Beach is ripe for a lazy afternoon bar tour, and there are plenty of watering holes around our little village to stop in at.
Not surprisingly, we reckon the best way to fit them all in, see the sights, AND get some smiles going at the same time is to do it on a BIKE! Here’s our reccomendation for an authentic Burra bar tour on the huffy…
Stop 1. The Common
Part cafe, part art gallery, part chilled outdoor vibe, The Common is the heart of Culburra’s shop strip and makes its cocktails and casual food from the heart. The sprawling outdoor / backyard space makes this the perfect meeting place for crowds who want to start their celebrations on the right foot. If you’re lucky, owner Lex will have some acoustic guitar tunes lined up, with a host of local live music acts on the books at this cute cockatil bar.
Try a craft pale ale (or a whole paddle!) to kickstart the tour, or go straight to the cocktail list. Try some casual bites to line the stomach and give you a bike-riding boost if you need it, or just get into the drinks… We recommend the Lake Wollumboola-themed lime-laced special if it’s on!
Stop 2. The Lil Snapper
Just around the corner is the unmissable ‘Lil Snapper’, part fish n chip institution, part cocktail bar. Look for the iconic ‘wave’ roofline and kick back in the roomy balcony area where your whole crowd will have space to relax and get the party started. Don’t miss the sushi menu or some korean chicken bites while you’re here.
And seeing as you haven’t been on your bike for long, we recommend fanging out to Penguin Head or Crooky Headland on your wheels to earn the next bar stop!
Stop 3. Loco Lane
An intimate and completely delightful way to end the day. Loco Lane does Mexican Cantina food and drinks like NOBODY ELSE (and we are talking about comparisons even further afield than Culburra, here!). For starters, the cocktail list needs two pages and it’s a veritable degustation of drinkable delights.
ALL the margs are worth a taste, from the creamy coolth of the coconut marg, through to the heat of the spicy marg version. Morto’s long-time favourite is the Pink Camino, which shows real men can definitely drink pink. Pair your tipple with a delicious birria taco and house-made guoc and you’ll be feeling full Burra mode in no time.
Note bookings are essential at Loco Lane during holiday periods because it’s a gorgeous intimate space that can’t always accommodate many drop-ins.
Bonus intel
So, despite Morto being able to provide genuinely useful tips on how not to crash a bike after drinking eight schooners, Burra Bike & Board does not recommend riding bikes (hired or otherwise) with a blood alcohol reading of more than .05. Especially with the pot-holes, dark spots, and open drainage systems dotting around the town.
And there are also plenty of places worth visiting in Culburra Beach that don’t involve boozing – talk to us about the family friendly bike tour options in the village.

Sounds like a hens dream girl!
